We are honored to celebrate amazing people who make a huge difference for others, and February is Black History Month!

As apart of our virtual book club, this month, I would like to highlight “The Third Option” by Miles McPherson.

These are my take aways that apply to any interaction with others:

1. Come from what makes us united NOT divided. What would unite and bring people closer together?
2. Come from HONOR. What would be the most honorable thing to do?
3. Come from WE vs YOU or I. What is “the third option” that works for everyone: you, I and others?

I use these principles all the time. When disagreement comes, ask yourself this question: “What is the Third Option?” How can we agree to disagree, maintain the relationship, make it stronger through empowered communication and move things forward in the way that works for everyone?

The author, Pastor Miles McPherson, is the Senior Pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego. He is a former NFL and San Diego Charges player and is an inspiring leader in San Diego. The Rock Church, the most diverse church in the nation, is known for it’s contribution to making San Diego better, meeting the needs of the city and truly building a more empowered community. It’s a “DO SOMETHING” church.
