March 8th, International Women’s Day, is a BIG holiday in many countries! Its recognition has been growing within the US as well.  Initially a Women’s History Week in March was recognized.  That week proved too short and it evolved into the month long observance of today.  Joining the celebration with the rest of the world is a great opportunity to link with a global community in making all women feel special, valued and appreciated.

My favorite female influencer and leader is Oprah Winfrey. I admire her for her perseverance in the face of life’s challenges.  They didn’t stop her from being one of the most respected voices influencing public views and from making a significant contribution to helping those in need, especially women.

Watching one of her shows 22 years ago while holding my newborn daughter, my heart was touched in the way that created the beginning of a life long passion.  In that moment I decided to “be the change I want to see in the world” and lessen suffering for women in our local community, as well as worldwide.

This passion came to fruition with the founding of Inspire Changes, our non-profit focused on smile rehabilitation of trafficking survivors and women who have been through domestic abuse and sexual violence.
